Purchased as the result of War Bonds bought by citizens of Ironwood, Michigan in 1943. This Thunderbolt was assigned 50th Fighter Group at the Air Force School of Applied Tactics in Orlando for training purposes.
On 10 October 1943 it was damaged while taxiing at Bushnell Field AAB, Orlando. After repair it was transferred to 121st Base Unit located at Bradley Field, Connecticut.
On 25 August 1944, it was forced to crash land about 3 miles north of Bradley Field and was subsequently scrapped.
