Assigned overseas to England
on 26th March 1944, this B24 flew its first mission with 486BG on 7th May 1944. Lt Sowers
was in command that day and flew a total of eleven of his missions in the aircraft -- out of
a total of 20 known to have been completed by it. Its final combat sortie was on 17th
July 1944
to attack the bridge at Gien, France and it is believed to have suffered serious
battle damage which resulted in salvage on 21st July 1944.
